ARTIST BIO:

Nina Louton, Hot Springs

ARTIST E-MAIL:
Nina Louton is a native Arkansan born ninth of ten children on a farm near Denby Point—now under Lake Ouachita. Louton began studying art with her mother: paper, clay, cloth, wax, and gourd art as well as clothing design and gardening. She graduated from Henderson State University in 1970 with a BSE and Masters degree in 1991. With Jimmy (married in 1969) Nina raised three children; and they thoroughly enjoy spoiling three beautiful granddaughters. She taught first, third, fifth, and Special Ed 5-11 for twenty-nine years at Mountain Pine School in a town just outside Hot Springs. Believing that supporting the arts is an important part of being an artist, Louton is a member of the Arkansas Arts Center, a Mid-Southern Watercolorist, President of the 2007 Traditional Arts Guild.

Louton states, “I believe the research that maintains that art is a gateway to academic achievement”. Martin, Coulter, Larkin, Schanink, Rames, McDonald, Fettingis, Andrews, and Gremillion have influenced Louton's work. She works and accepts commissions in all mediums, although watercolor and clay are the mediums most used for self-expression. Students of all ages are welcomed in the medium of their choice at her 114 Mountain View St. studio in Hot Springs.
